Maybe you will have better luck then we did. Our machine did not work. We even took it to someone who repairs small electronics and they said that it is not repairable. So we are returning it. I liked the idea of the slower speed and shild safe foot guard. But this bobbin casing is loose and does not allow it to sew, it just jams up. Very frustrating.

My daughter (7) really wanted this sewing machine. We got it home, unpacked it, finished the stitch on the little blue cloth that comes already sewn and then proceeded to make one of the projects. Well, that's where the fun STOPPED. The stitch wouldn't hold (it wouldn't even stitch). The needle would go through, but it didn't make a stitch. We re-threaded the needle (which is nearly impossible using the provided tool and given the fact that the needle doesn't come up high enough to have a straight shot through), and tried to re-thread the bobbin, but the bobbin thread would not go where it was supposed to (the directions seem vaguely clear, if not contradictory, but following them does not produce the results they promise). I spent about 90 minutes looking for additional help online, and trying over and over to re-thread the needle and bobbin, all to no avail. It broke my daughter's heart to tell her it was going back. This is a poorly built waste of $$.

Two adults, including an experienced sewer, could not get the machine to stitch properly. The problem is with the thread tensioners, the spool tensioner can't be tuned finely enough one 1/8th turn clockwise and it is way to tight, the otherway its too loose. The bobbin tensioner is so loose it doesn't tension at all. I am surprised Singer would put out a product this low quality.

This is a horrible introduction to sewing! It is impossible to thread and keep threaded - basically it embodies everything that is difficult about sewing with NONE of the fun! I wish we had put the money toward an adult sewing machine because while I dont mind helping her, she definitely loses interest watching me try to thread it over and over! Dont buy this!

Great starter machine. Had some trouble threading it the first time, but it works really well and is very safe for young ones to learn on.

Young seamstresses will delight in making real fashions with their very own child-sized sewing machine. The Singer LockStitch creates a strong, neat lockstitch and really sews. With a two-speed control, on/off switch, tension dial, bobbin winder and foot pedal control, girls have everything they need to begin sewing...

I like this knitting machine. i debated for a while whether to get one, hesitant mainly because of the poor amazon reviews. I agree that it takes a little trial-and-error before you get a clean knit, but it's not "difficult." I had good success when I used sock-weight yarn, but i use it a lot for felting thicker wool (in which case it really doesn't matter if you drop a stitch or mess up a row). My husband is completely baffled that the thing works, but I added a customer picture so you can see for yourself that it's possible to get a clean knit. I rather like this thing, and can crank out a 2-foot tube in about 15 minutes. I'm a poor hand-knitter, so this is pretty much the only knitting i do now. If you're buying this for a child, I'm skeptical that they would have the patience to figure it out. I think their parents will have to be pretty involved with the project. Judging from the number of adults that posted bad reviews, I'm not really sure it would be the best toy for kids.

The box states this knitting machine is for 6 and older. I bought it for my daughters 7th birthday. She was very excited to get a "sewing" machine, and liked to far and above all the other gifts. That said, it doesn't work well, and the instructions are poor. First the box said it had a "project book" but ours came with an over-sized piece of paper with incomplete instructions and a few projects: scarf, hat, socks - that are really tubes with the end sewed shut, no real heel. The real problem, is that the machine drops stitches for no apparent reason. It is plastic, and we were gentle and worked slowly at first. The instructions don't clearly state that you have to tie off the beginning row - or it will unravel. So you have to knit several rounds, until they hang out of the machine far enough for you to gently thread yarn thru the loops to tie them off, otherwise the whole thing pulls loose. Because the machine randomly drops stitches the finished scarf has holes thru out, like swiss cheese. Also, as noted by other posts, it only uses very fine yarn. The knots made when joining yarn, say in a color change, won't fit thru the tension adjuster. All and all it is not a good toy, especially for younger kids, even though it is advertised for 6 years old. Also, if you crank the handle backwards, mid row, on accident it drops all the stitches. This is not too hard to remember for an adult, but for a 7 year old proved tough. The box should have stated what weight yarn was needed, and it should clearly state that constant adult supervision is needed for younger kids. This should really be rated 12 and older. We were disappointed because my daughter was so excited, she cried when I wanted to take it back to the store - but the dumb thing doesn't really work, and the one scarf we got, I made while she unrolled yarn from the ball. Major disappointment. I won't buy a "Singer" toy again.

This product is not durable. After fiddling with it for 1 hour and 3 tries, I was ready to ditch it. The gear is not turning anymore. I"m taking it back to the store. If anybody knows a better machine, pls. write me back. Thanks.

I have 3 knitting machines the Ultimate Sweater Machine, Innovations, & this Singer. I was able to have experience before buying this one. The instructions are NOT CORRECT! I know that if you feed the yarn in and let it just knit your yarn will UNRAVEL! Take a hint from the Innovations instructions. You need to thread every OTHER one to begin then after one round you can let it take the yarn through the guide on the machine. The other thing is a modification that I did to mine. I didn't like the guide that the yarn had to go through because if there is a mistake it is super hard to get the yarn out without cutting it. I made a small cut (hack saw or dremil tool will do) lengthwise so I can take the yarn out and finish a garment with no problem. I also suggest going on the innovationsknitting yahoo group. There is alot of ideas, tricks & tips for all kinds of circular knitting machines.

We love this toy! We got it for Christmas for my 7 year old daughter - one of the needles was broken on the machine, but NKOK sent us a new one very quickly and soon we had miles and miles of knitted tubes! The thing that it is picky about is the weight of the yarn that you use. Regular old worsted weight yarn (the stuff that is readily available and what you usually think of as yarn) is too bulky for this machine, so you have to look for something lighter, like sportweight or fingering weight yarn. You have to read the yarn labels and look for it or the size 3 or smaller. Once you have the right size yarn it works just like it should! The most interesting piece she has made has been from some of the fluffy thin polyamide stuff from Hobby Lobby. It made a terrific scarflet, although finding the loops to bind of the beginning and end was a little more difficult. She followed the instructions carefully, though, and has made some great things with only a little help from mommy!

My daughter was so excited to buy this toy and knit on it. We were so disappointed. It is EXTREMELY hard to work. It certainly is not worth the money to buy it.

I purchased this for my daughter as a replacement for the Singer Knitting Machine that didn't work. The reviews for the Spool Knitter were quite positive, so I was hopeful. Alas, the Spool Knitter is also a piece of junk. It dropped stitches. Then, because it has to hang off the table in order to use it, it fell a few feet onto the carpet and the handle broke off. This was the first time I used it. Highlights was excellent about returning my money and shipping, at least!

I bought this spool knitting machine for my daughter, who is 6 1/2 years old. We've been going to a kids knitting group together, and she was getting frustrated with the learn-to-knit process. I thought that if she could get results a little faster, it would be more satisfying for her. It turned out to be true. She loves that she can make a long I-cord in just minutes, and has started planning projects that previously she never would have considered. The novelty of a machine spool knitter is very popular at the knitting group, and all the kids want a turn at the crank! One thing to note is that the knitter is relatively easy to use with a few caveats. First, READ the directions for threading the knitter! I thought using it would be easy, but spent a 1/2 hour trying to thread it before checking the instructions (I know, my bad!). Anyway, it is easy to thread, but not obvious to thread. Now that I know the secret, I no longer have to check the instructions. Second, the yarn provided is not very strong and will break easily. In an I-cord, it is strong enough, but alone it's pretty weak. It's easy to thread new yarn onto the spools, though. Third, one thing we learned is that it's important to turn the crank in a steady, fast motion. About 2 cranks/second is a about right. If you stop too suddenly, the knitter will skip a few stitches, and you will have to use a crochet hook, or other instrument, to get it straightened out. Finally, it's easy to change colors - just tie a knot between the end of one yarn and the yarn on the new spool. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet self-striping yarn would be really neat on this knitter!

For really very little money, there's a great craft here to produce scrunchies for your pony tail, little toys or anything your imagination dictates. Make no mistake, this will never replace knitting or crochet, but this is super fun. Not only will kids love it, adults won't mind playing with it a while as well. This is a gift for a friend, and it was certainly well-appreciated.

Singer Spool Knitter Machine is the best. You could make cord or flat panel, a small strip and attach together to become bigger strip/flat panel. Cord can be 2, 3, 4 strings. Make beautiful flowers, hair scrunchie, hair clip, animal figures.... I love it and it's fun not only for kids for adults too.Singer Spool Knitter Machine

I bought this for my 8yr. old daughter. The knitting machine works moderatly well (drops stitches pretty regularly) but ok. The spool knitter which I had hoped my younger daughter would use has never worked. So all in all don't bother. Disapointing.
