I'm using this with NiMH batteries to read in bed. The light hangs on your neck and sits on your chest and overall it works well. My criticisms are 1: it's a bit on the heavy side--with today's LEDs it should work with AAA batteries. 2: I wish the light could pivot upward more. 3: It comes with a yellow filter meant to soften the bluish LED light and I wish the filter would be a little whiter to allow more light to pass through.

Great product. Worth the money. Has many uses. Highly recommend for a hands free and free standing use.

I am an avid knitter (at least 1 hour every day) and I consider my Beam N Read LED 6 as important as the knitting needles themselves. I keep one in my knitting bag and use it whenever and wherever I knit. Even if I am next to a good table lamp, my Beam N Read gives me better and stronger light directly on my work. Visualize a group of knitters or quilters gathered to chat and work--with the Beam N Read each person can have her own good, strong light focused on her work without regard to where table or floor lamps may be. This is a real winner for anyone who does needlework. I have used Beam N Reads for years. I started using the Beam N Read to check on my infant children, change diapers, check on a feeding tube, etc. without needing to turn on the overhead light. When the other children were sleeping I didn't want to wake them. The kids are older now but one recent night after they were in bed, I used a Beam N Read with the magnifier to deal with an eye problem one of the children had. During the occasional blackout, I can walk around the house with both hands free. I've used it when looking for papers in storage boxes in the unfinished storage space under the house - especially in spaces the overhead light doesn't reach. It's been very useful.

I am able to make significant progress on a needlepoint picture because this light is as good as daylight in working on my project. Before I purchased this light, I had to lay my picture aside when the sun went down.

I use my BNR LED 3 in many ways. It's a great light for reading and for looking at programs in the theatre without disturbing others. I don't get on a plane without it. I take it into restaurants both to read the menu in dim light and, most important, to see the check when it's presented. Most of the time, it's hard to see what you are signing for but my Beam N Read makes it very clear. I've used it to look for stuff in the garage & basement. It's an all-around great light with so many uses -- and the batteries last a long time!

I have used Beam N Reads for years. I started using the Beam N Read to check on my infant children, change diapers, check on a feeding tube, etc. without needing to turn on the overhead light. When the other children were sleeping I did not want to wake them. Years later, on Halloween it was a big help finding items the kids dropped out of the stroller in the dark shadows. I could keep one hand on the stroller and the other was free to pick stuff up. The kids are older now but one recent night after they were in bed with the lights out, I used a Beam N Read with the red filter attached to apply some ointment to one of the children. When finished I turned the light out and could immediately see in the darkened room. No night blindness that would have occurred if I hadn't put the filter over the bright white light. During the occasional blackout, I can walk around the house with both hands free. I've used it when looking for papers in storage boxes in the unfinished storage space under the house - especially in spaces the overhead light doesn't reach. It's been very useful.

When I travel, either on a train or a plane, i find there is limited amount of light to read a book. No matter how or where you sit in your seat, there is no light available or limited amounts. I bought this devise to get more light on a recent train trip. well IT worked better than i thought. After adjusting the light around my neck (which in my opinion is the largest setback to this being a 5 star product), there was enough light for me to read the novel on a train trip. For those of you who want a light when you travel, i say get this and enjoy your trip Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD

I really like my light and use it every night, BUT I wish the neck cord was a little longer- AND I wish the light opened more to shine straight out instead of downward. I use it mostly to knit in bed and have to constantly adjust it to get it focused in the right spot. If I am reading it stays better, but it shifts with the motions of knitting. The concept is great, the price good and I am happier than I have been with any other "book light."

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting

I've always gone to the craft store and gazed upon the rows and rows of gorgeous, colorful, sparkly yarns, and wished that I could do something with them other than admire them. I never thought that I could learn how to knit. All the other ways I've tried didn't work--like looking in books and trying to follow illustrations. Knitting has always been so intimidating to me. There's even a whole new language you have to learn. I am so thankful that this DVD exists. Nici McNally is SO super sweet and she knits really slowly so you can follow all of the strange twists and turns associated with knitting. She repeats things over and over again so that you can actually learn techniques. She understands how awkward it is for the first-time knitter and she is quite sympathetic to the person who might still be confused--even after she has shown you something. Also, it is filmed really well, over the shoulder so that you can see what she's doing and follow along. The colors of the background don't interfere with the color of the yarn, she uses a bulky yarn so that you can see every movement. Also, it is packed with visually stunning imagery--piles of gorgeous yarn balls in the background, and vivid,candy-colored items. It's really pretty to watch. I absolutely love this DVD. For me, knitting is still really challenging and difficult at times and I even get a little frustrated, but I consult the DVD whenever I have further questions. Despite this, in two days I knitted my first project and I can't wait to create another one! If you're a beginning knitter, keep at it. You'll "get it" and it will click. You will be so happy that you stuck with it and practiced. It is very rewarding and can even build self-esteem. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who has always been afraid of learning how to knit. Teens and children would also benefit from this instructional video as well. It would be an excellent starting point. This DVD is truly worth every dime. Thanks for reading. This is just my opinion. ;)

This video taught me how to knit. Nici is so sweet, nice and informative! She makes you feel relaxed and at ease. I was knitting in about 2o min. This video is everything everyone else says it is. I tried to learn on youtube but got so confused because I didnt know where people were starting from. I almost gave up but then I got this video. I am so glad. She is a wonderful teacher. Just because someone knows how to knit doesn't mean they know how to teach you. I will always keep this video for reference and am glad I found the best!

When I get time, I really want to follow the DVD more closely, but so far, so good.

I have tried to teach my mother to knit countless times and have felt like just slitting both wrists and throat just to end the pain quickly. I puchased this DVD, and for the first time in 86 years she can cast on and knit. Nici's approach to teaching is fabulous, and the camera angles are PERFECT. She starts off teaching you how to use your remote. Don't say "OMG," because, to my great surprise, I actually learned a couple things. Then she moves on to how to make a slip knot. The next words out of my mother's mouth were, "Oh, good, I've always wanted to know how to make a slip knot." I confess, I did say "OMG." You will appreciate her simplistic method of teaching when you try to learn techniques you don't know. Best of all, everything is compartmentalized, so you only watch specifically what you need. By the way, I put my mother's knowledge of and ability to sew right up there next to Martha Pullen, so she is not without her talents. I would greatly appreciate Ms. McNally producing an advanced techniques knitting dvd. She is a superb teacher.

I have always wanted to learn to knit, and books were way too confusing. I ordered this dvd and received it one week ago. Today I am finishing my second project of a monogrammed cloth. I can't believe how easy it was to learn from this dvd. The instructor is excellent and calm to listen to. I am thrilled I purchased this dvd, and plan to order her next level when available!!! I loved her continental style and found it so easy to put into practice.

First, I would not call the host an expert knitter. Her continental style is very sloppy. the complete beginner's guide was MUCH better. this is for the complete novice. I picked this up to learn cont. style and long tail cast on. She goes WAY to fast in the long tail cast one. Other times are very slow. She even pauses to count her stitches in an example....what a waste of time. a novice would do much better to watch a youtube clip. there is no real value to this dvd. unlike complete beginner DVD which you can keep going back to, to learn more. not sure why the other reviews are so high. Just wanted to let folks know the truth.

This is a great video for beginners who don't know anyone personally to teach them how to knit. I had been trying to learn to knit for a month now and finally know how to do a knit stitch thanks to this video! If you know someone you can help you knit, get their help first but this video is great for people who don't have that help. I would suggest learning how to knit from a video than buying a book.

I thought this was good. I got it for my grandkids to learn to knit and I think it is just the video to do that!! I recommend it!! It's very clear and easy to follow for adults and children. I will probably purchase the rest of the series. OH...by the way, I do not work for Leisure Arts...this is an honest review. Thank you!

The knitting instructional DVD is clear and organized well. Miss Leapman brings her knowledge as a teacher to the privacy of your own home. If you need to review a stitch, the DVD's format design allows you to view the demonstration without having to return to the beginning of the DVD. "Two needles up" to Leisure Arts.

I was thrilled when my Beam N Read light arrived. I LOVED it when I was knitting at night. But after a couple of hours the bulb started getting weaker and weaker. I tried to replace the bulb with the one which came with the light. I couldn't get the current bulb out and was afaid to I might break it if I kept trying. Now I will go to a Batteries Plus and see if they can help. I really want to get my light back and functioning!

bulbs do not last any time. so hard to unscrew tiny bulb and put in another and WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND NOR BUY AGAIN. WASTE OF MONEY; dh

This reading light has saved my marriage! I can read perfectly with it and not bother my spouse. In fact, the Beam N Read light is so good, that I now prefer to read with it instead of the "big" reading lamp next to my bed.

I bought this yesterday to help bring my crocheting a little closer and also to brighten my working area. The light itself works well. I like being able to direct it and the base of the light that rests against your chest is smaller than the other craft-type lights I saw. But the main reason I purchased this product was for the three magnification lenses that came with it. There are three intesities: 2X, 4X, and 6X. I thought this would really help my eyes from straining to see small stitches. WRONG! The lenses are not like a clear, smooth magnifying glass, but they have ridges and lines. The magnifying works, but there is no way I could sit and read or even do crocheting for any length of time without my eyes getting tired from looking thru these lenses. I will be returning this product today and getting one of the more traditional types.

The first such light, which had only 2 AA batteries, lasted over 10 years. When it died, I hoped I could find an exact replacement. This is made by the same company, but is designed a bit differently, and it's black instead of pink. This time it uses 4 AA batteries, which makes it a bit heavier but should also make the light last even longer. The conecpt of this is brilliant. Instead of trying to attach the light to the book (how's that gonna work if I want to read The New Yorker or The New York Times in bed??), this one attaches the light to you, facing out at the book or magazine or newspaper or knitting--or if you're in a motel room, it will help you find your way to the bathroom. It looks a little gorky, but it works like a charm.

Knit Stitches In Motion (Leisure Arts #107456) Knit Stitches In Motion (Leisure Arts #107456)

I love this DVD and have learned a great deal more from watching it. The stitches taught are ones that I personally like and after learning abreviations like PSSO and others I am able to now read and knit from my other knitting books. I am a visual learner and have enjoyed the Leisure Arts video's.

I've been knitting for about a month and learned to knit from another DVD. It was so easy to learn from that DVD that I thought it'd be interesting to see some more advanced stitches. I went ahead and rented this DVD and I'm just honestly not that impressed with it. CONS: 1. There were never any pauses to see the stitch patterns in progress. For me, the point of having the DVD was to see everything and feel reassured that I was knitting correctly. It would have been nice if after each row there was a pause or picture to see what the swatch should look like. There were some patterns where I was sure I'd made a complete mess out of things but it turns out that's just the way it looked half way through. This is probably my biggest complaint. Just adding this step would have made it worth having the DVD. 2. The knitting along with commentary was not helpful. I'd hoped the commentary would explain some of the more difficult stitches (beyond just knit and purl, e.g. k2tog, psso, etc) or give advice on how to make them easier. It very rarely did this. I can barely even remember what the extra commentary was since it didn't provide anything meaningful. 3. The included projects weren't very interesting. I didn't even bother to knit one of them and just did the practice swatches. The most interesting section was on creating the pom poms. I'm a little confused as to the intended audience for the DVD. If you're a beginner I'd think you'd be better off searching online for free demo videos of all the stitches then learning from this DVD. There are also free knit patterns online. If you're not a beginner then all you probably need is the listing of stitch patterns and the DVD is unnecessary. The projects weren't interesting enough to inspire someone more advanced, or at least they didn't inspire me. What I did like about the DVD was the included sheet listing all the patterns. The only reason I'm giving this three stars is that I like quite a few of the patterns and I did manage to learn new stitches. If you don't want to take the time to search out better resources online this will get you the end result of learning these patterns.

I received this DVD today. It is the second DVD I have purchased about knitting. I have only been knitting for about 2 months. The only project I have made is one scarf all in knit stitch. But what I learned in this DVD is amazing. I do not work for Lesure Arts and I love this DVD. Within 5 minutes of watching it I was able to duplicate the the 2X2 rib stitch shown in the video. The stitch along feature with the automatic pause makes it very easy to knit at your own pace. Because the instructor names the stitch as she does it I have learned serveral new techniques just by watching. I have learned how to do a yarn over on purchase instead of by accident, how to knit two together, how to slip a stitch as if to knit and/or to purl, it increased my knowledge as to how to read a pattern because the DVD shows the pattern, then the instructor says what she is doing as she knits it. You will learn the Berry stitch, the Moss Stitch Panes, the 5-Stitch Cable with Bobble, the 2X2 Rib, the Slip Stitch Boxes, the Moss Stitch, the Cross Stitch Zigzag, the Trellis Lace Stitch, the Small Wheatear Stitch, the Crocus Buds Stitch, the Snowflakes Stitch and the Yarn Over Cable Stitch. You will also learn how to make the following projects: a scarf, a shawl, a headband, a shoulder warmer, and a spa cloth. I also have the Art of Knitting DVD by Leisure arts. I did learn how to do the knit and pearl stitch with it but it is not anywhere as good as this DVD. It's too bad they faked some of the reviews because this is an excellent DVD.

I have viewed this DVD as an independent person from Leisure Arts. The DVD is nicely done. Their are multitude of stiches in the index to review and knit along with the person on the DVD.Nicely done. This DVD provided reassurance that I was doing a few of these stitches the correct way. I would recommend the DVD to the beginner person wanting to learn new stitches.

I have started to knit after I have been crocheting for over a year and a half. This DVD made it very easy to start to knit. I will be using this DVD until I am good at what I am trying to knit Thanks for another great DVD. I also bought the Crocheting in motion over a year ago I recommend them both L Moore
